A couple of weeks ago Andy suggested that I watch this new tv show called Life on Mars. It’s an American version of the British tv series that ran in 2006. So, I checked out the first couple of episodes and really liked it. I won’t try to describe the program except to say it’s about a cop who suddenly finds himself transported from 2008 back to 1973. Here’s a bit of the official description from the ABC Life on Mars website:
Where were you in 1973? NYPD Detective Sam Tyler finds himself in the cultural hotbed of New York City in the tumultuous times of the Vietnam War, Watergate, women’s lib and the civil and gay rights movements – without a cell phone, computer, PDA or MP3 player — suddenly hurtled back in time when he’s ripped from 2008 after being hit by a car while chasing down a criminal. He’s trying mightily to understand what has just happened to him and how he can get back “home.”
I like how well they have captured the events and situations of 1973 that serve as a backdrop tot he series. The music is great. He drives a muscle car. And we see snippets of tv shows that aired back then along with newscasts and events. For us older people it’s a great flashback to the times. And I think younger viewers like seeing how things were when their parents were young.
It’s show that I hope they keep and I highly recommend it.
