Yes! Another podcast at long last. Summer is waning and I had a little time today to put together some things for another podcast. I had some issues with the software I had been using to mix everything together, but managed to work around it.

Movie Review

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

A blog post because I’m still not able to either find the time or the inclination to record another podcast. Perhaps when Fall rolls around I can try it again.

On to my movie review:

Batman: The Dark Knight

Some good and some bad and some spoilers. Be warned.

Heath ledger did a great job as the Joker. To me the Joker is really a character who is about anarchy and chaos, not about crime just for monetary gain. And this portrayal of the Joker was just that.

But Oscar material? I don’t think so. However, Hollywood does love it’s recently dead actors.

There was a point half an hour before the end of the movie where it could have ended and I would have walked out of the theater quite happy. So, that point in the movie was a bit awkward. It was a stumble in the flow.

Now let’s talk about Batman’s voice. I can understand the need to disguise his voice. But Bale’s Batman voice was a bit overdone. His Bruce Wayne persona was good, but a little lispy voice-wise. I’m going to purchase the DVD just to be able to turn on the captioning so I can read the things he said that I couldn’t quite catch in the theater.

Now let’s talk about Harvey Dent – aka Two face. Great job by Aaron Eckhart. I really liked his Harvey Dent character. And the CGI for Two Face was astounding. But I feel the movie completely mishandled Two Face. As we know Two Face is a fairly major villain in the comics. To just have him barely created and then killed was a complete waste of the character. I would have preferred to have the movie end with Harvey Dent just beginning to turn into the maniacal Two Face and escaping. But leave Batman taking the rap to leave the public persona of Harvey Dent unscathed.

I didn’t care much for Maggie Gyllenhaal as Rachel Dawes. I’m not sure what it was because I thought Katie Holmes came off as too young. Maybe Gyllenhaal was just the opposite – more like an older sister than a love interest.

Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman were absolutely brilliant as usual. Two of my favorite actors.

Overall, I would give it 4 out of 5 and fully intend to purchase the DVD.
