Summer Viewing

Monday, August 27th, 2007

Or, what I’ve been watching while I wait for Heroes

to return for season 2.

Eureka is in its second season. I really like this show. It’s quirky enough to be fun and there is enough skullduggery going on to make it interesting. I have finally caught up with all the episodes thus far this summer.

Now I need to start on the 4th season of The 4400.

I have also watched the first couple of episodes of the current incarnation of Flash Gordon. It’s innane, cliche and poorly acted. So, why am I watching it? Because it’s like trying to not look at a train wreck. I have actually entertained the idea of a scene-by-scene deconstruction of this mess for a future blog post.

Freelancer

I was emailing my brother and discovered that he’s been playing a lot of this game lately –

Freelancer

It’s an older game that is a cross between a role playing game and a first person shooter. Even though it’s older there is still quite an active online community of players. They do everything from discuss the game to creating MOD files and total game conversions to things like the Star Trek Star Wars, Babylon 5 universes. One of those sites is Lancers Reactor.

I’m just getting started with the demo version of the game. I will probably be purchasing the full version when I’ve played through the demo.

Next DVD purchases

Season 1 of Heroes. There are a ton of extras on the DVD set that even though I have all the episodes from when they aired last season, I just have to get the DVD’s.

The collector’s edition of Serenity, the movie based on the Firefly tv series. Also, lots of special features.

Another Movie Post

We went to the third Bourne movie this last week –

It was a good ending of the trilogy. It pretty much brings the story to a conclusion.

Some of the things we noticed – the Bourne movies managed to be really good without throwing in the gratuitous elements that movies often do just to get the R rating. They prove that movies can be good and still keep a more family friendly rating. I am seriously considering purchasing the 3 Bourne movies when they are released as a set.

DVD Reviews

Mr. and Mrs. JohnStuff watched a couple of DVD’s recently.

JohnStuff rating:
JohnStuff rating:

Premonition – A passable film. Sandra Bullock starts having premonitions about her husband’s death. It’s a series of jumping around in her timeline between reality and premonitions. At first it’s kind of dumb, but you start to piece the events together properly about 3/4 the way through the movie. The ending is fairly anti-climatic.

The Contract – much better movie. Some tense moments and a nice ending even though the bad guy does fulfill his “contract”.
