Christmas 2006

Thursday, December 28th, 2006

I received some new ear buds for Christmas –

I like them because they fit snugly in the ears and have a great, full sound. And they fit in the ear more comfortably. Much better than the little over-the-head ones I had been using.

Other Christmas goodies for JohnStuff included:

Fablehaven. Here’s a quote from a review of the book – This is a gripping and beautifully crafted tale in which the magical denizens of Fablehaven are much like humans in that they can be dangerous and unpredictable, or gracious and magnanimous. Readers will find it hard to put this book down and will eagerly await the next installment of the tale.

Battlestar Galactice 2.5. I have been watching the series up to this point and am really excited to dive into the second half of the second season.

There has been a lot of interest in the Richard Donner cut of Superman II. Lots of changes from the previous version which was released 1981. This is the version Donner (who did the original Superman movie) intended.

The Beatles Love CD/DVD combo. Interesting re-mixes of Beatles music. I’m anxious to hear the DVD in 5.1 surround sound.

Portable Applictions

Saturday, December 2nd, 2006

I absolutely love my 1Gig USB drive!

I take it to work with me everyday and run several of my regular applications from it rather than installing programs on the work computers. Here’s a short list with links to the stuff I use everyday:

Firefox Portable
The best web browser out there. Having a portable version means nothing is kept on the host computer. And you have all the advantages of Firefox.

Xnews Usenet Reader
A great reader for following discussions on the usenet.

GreatNews RSS Aggregator
Great for subscribing to websites which feature RSS feeds.

FileZilla Portable FTP Client
A full-featured FTP client for accessing my websites.
